The City Of Almeria

The province of Almeria lies on the eastern side of Andalusia. The capital of the province takes the same name and lies on the southern coast. Almeria is a relatively dry area and features the Tabernas Desert. Despite this, the province is well-renowned for the manufacture of grapes and oranges which are a main form of export. The Almeria coast line offers some of the best beaches in the area, and visitors can enjoy a great range of activities and water sports.

The city of Almeria is a modern port city which attracts tourists throughout the year with its Mediterranean atmosphere and historical heritage. The city was originally founded by the Phoenicians and was since occupied by the Moors, the Romans and the Carthaginians. There is a wealth of historical buildings to be found in the city, featuring the Alcazaba and the old cathedral. The Old Quarter is also worth a visit where you can enjoy the lively local market.

Despite its heritage, Almeria is a largely modern city consisting of a large marina and a major ferry port with trips to the African continent. La Rambla is found in the centre of the city, and is a large road with play parks, cafes and shops. There is a lot on offer in Almeria, and visitors will be in for a pleasant surprise.
