Almeria Cuisine
Almeria is home to many traditional and modern recipes which entice visitors to sample them in the form of tapas. Tapas are served in most bars and restaurants in Almeria and give holiday makers the chance to sample a little bit of everything.
Almeria is noted for using mainly local produce in the majority of its dishes. Fresh fruit and vegetable grown in the surroundings are used to cook with, and pork and seafood are the predominant meats. Fresh local catches are brought in by the fishermen every day, and will still taste of the sea by the time it gets to your plate.
Soups are popular in Almeria, and include the famous ‘Sopa de Almeria’, which is made from sea food, and the ‘Sopa de Ajo’ made from garlic. ‘Sopa Negra’ (Black soup) and ‘Sopa Moruna’ (Moorish Soup) are also prevalent in the area. Cured meats are served in many of the restaurants and have a very well-liked and distinct flavour. Seafood dishes are found served in a variety of ways, ranging from different styles of cooking to different types of sauce.
