Unión Deportiva Almería
Unión Deportiva Almería is one of Spain’s top division football clubs which currently plays in the national La Liga. La Liga is the top professional football league in the country played by twenty different teams. The club was formed in 1989 as Almería Club de Fútbol, but got renamed in 2001 to UD Almeria.
The first division of the La Liga is contested by twenty teams, of which the three lowest scoring teams get relegated to the second division, or the Segunda Division. The top three teams of the second division will then move up to the first division. Unión Deportiva Almería played in the second division for a season before being relegated to Second Division B in 1996, and then to the third division in 1998/1999. They played well, and climbed back up in the ensuing years, and made it up to the first division in 2006/2007. In the tail end of 2007 and beginning of 2008, the Unión Deportiva Almería played exceptionally well and placed eighth in the final league.
